Iain M. Banks - Excession

I was recommended this book when I asked which Culture novel I should read first. If this is an easy introduction, then I'm scared. It really does throw you in, with very little explanation what is going on (having finished it, I still have little idea). Multiple strings weave together to form the plot with a huge cast of extras. Utterly bemusing, moderately enjoyable, quite fascinating.
