I really loved this film when it first came out (way back in 1994 apparently). Rewatching the Director's Cut (which didn't seem overly different) however was less inspiring. Maybe it's just having seen 6 years of SG1 that makes the characters in this seem flat and uninteresting. The effects are still quite pretty, but the music was really beginning to get quite irritating!

SG1 is a superior offering, Richard Dean Anderson being a big factor in that. It forms a reasonable base for the series to come from, although it is not that fantastic film in its own right, being a mediocre action film, rather than an amusing, well researched series.
