This is one for the philosophical amongst you. On The Road meets Sophie's World. It is about a man in search of himself, whilst on a motor bike trip with his son, across the great expanse of America's plains and mountains. The title says it all, and yet it says nothing. Pirsig manages to weave a complex and layered mystery around the mental breakdown of a failed academic. Questioning the nature of sanity and self, blending Gothic fantasy and philosophical argument, this is a classic of it's time.
