Jackson off 'The Hobbit'

It would seem New Line is refusing to allow Peter Jackson to direct 'The Hobbit', unless he drops his lawsuit over the LOTR merchandising profits.

That's a slightly harsh spin on the story. When someone is suing you it seems reasonable to not work with them on other stuff. It would considerably weaken New Line's case and potentially just lead to the same problems all over again with this (bound to be) high grossing film.

A shame that it's impacted the film, but pretty good legal sense imho.
