Space Elevators no longer just Science Fiction

An American company is making a bid to construct a working space elevator, using carbon nanotubes. They're looking at a 15 year time schedule, to complete in 2018.

Damn that's some good crack they're smoking there. Good luck to them, but if it falls on me I'm suing...

Afaik, no one knows how to make bucky tubes much longer than a few cms. They also don't know how to cross-link them, join them or make concentric tubes with more than a few layers. A space elevator is impossible until someone works this out.

A 6 person $100,000 plant wants to do this? They're either smoking really good weed or selling snake oil...
