Kamigawa Previews start

Posted by armadillo (30th Aug 2004, 10:03) - http://www.wizards.com

Official previews for the next Magic block started today with some rules changes.

MaRo's article explains how
Creature - Dragon Legend
has become
Legendary Creature - Dragon

There's also a rules change to accompany this - now when a second identical Legendary permanent enters play, they're both destroyed

The other preview (here) shows that indestructible is back, bushido is a new ability, and 'doesn't tap to attack' has finally been keyworded.

Ouch! I know someone who'll be very happy indeed with a dragon cycle.

Vigilence works as a keyword, I'm never going to remember Bushido (just like I'm going to spend forever calling the damn set Kami-whatsit) and am utterly terrified by that samurai!

I've shifted the card images to links to avoid spoilerisms.

I hearily approve of the changes to the legend rules - means they can actually print low cost legends and ensure people will actually use them. It also means the unnatural selection trick stops working. Good!)

Re the dragons - wow ]:=8) love the artwork, love the flavour and love the effect. Nice to see a dragon which isn't pure stompy.

Suddenly legacy weapon seems even more useful...

Hmmm... I have one of the dragons in play
I play another
they both die
I tap 10 of your permanents, you skip your next 2 untaps
:)

Bushido and Vigalence are just keywords for abilities that have ben around for yonks (why bushido!?!).

Why does the legend change effect a Kaldra deck. I've got one and i can't see it has any effect? Unless your opponant also has Kaldra bits it leaves you in the same situaiton of not wanting to play any second copies you have. Or have i missed something?

More interestingly, with that dragon, there might well be a good reason to play a second copy. Both cards come in, both die and both have effect. If you can't kill someone with 10 of their permanents tapped for two turns then well.. ]:=8)

aha armadillo is here and beat me to it ];=8)

I suspect they would only skip on of their uptaps though you conuld always target multiple people

Did anyone else notice that Yosei has 5 little friends that presumably get pissed off when she/he/it dies?

You would skip both untap steps, as the two abilities are cumulative; see the rulings for Blinding Angel.

The rules change messes with my kaldra deck (yes, it was me) cos I rely on using artificial evolution to change the helm's text to create Avatar Penguin tokens instead of Avatar Legends, thus enabling my to generate many 4/4 tokens for 1 each.
With the new rules, they're Legendary Avatar tokens, and i can only have 1 at a time.

O that aspect! Yeah fair enough, I use the Arbitor to limit attacking creature numbers hence one token if sufficient.

Evolution is the card affected most I should think.
