Half Life 2 very soon?

Posted by karne (27th Aug 2004, 12:32) - http://www.steampowered.com

Steam users (Valve's online software distribution system) can now download encripted copies of Half Life 2, to be decrypted when they games goes live and they buy it. I should imagine it's just art assets atm but this does suggest the game is a lot closer to Gold than I'ld expected.

Takes a while to download (5 hours on ADSL), but I now have a new 1Gb file ("base source shared materials.gcf"), so that's understandable.

Gameplay are now listing this with a release date of 24th September (shop.gameplay.co.uk) but they say that this is subject to change, and have an option to email you if/when that happens.

An extra update came through on Steam on Friday evening - I think it said it was levels 1 and 2. The game is still locked until it's released, but it claims to have a complete copy on my hard drive now.
