New Discworld novels, Pratchett signing

Posted by John Kirk (24th Apr 2004, 18:22) -

"The Wee Free Men" is now out in paperback, and "A Hat Full Of Sky" is out in hardback. Foyles in Charing Cross Road are giving a £1 discount off the paperback, and £2 off the hardback. Also, Terry Pratchett is doing a signing there on Sat 1st May from 16:45 to 17:45. One curious thing - the new paperback is taller than the others, although still shorter than the hardback.

I didn't think they were actually classed as Discworld books were they? I know they had the witches in them, but I don't think they're counted in the discworld series. Anyone else wish that TP would do something off world once in a while?

Well, the new one says on the cover "A Story of Discworld", but they aren't counted as part of the Discworld series (e.g. "the 27th Discworld novel"). Instead, they're filed under Pratchett's "children's books". So it's slightly confusing...

The first of the 3 ("The Amazing Maurice...") was barely set on the Disc, since the only common character was Death. The second/third do have the Lancre witches in minor roles, so I think that they share the continuity.

I do know what you mean about other worlds though. Personally, I really liked his 3 Johnny Maxwell books, and I hope he'll do another one someday (although it seems increasingly unlikely).
