It does indeed rock most mightily. Not a single bar of empty John Williams style triumphal brass to be found. Melancholy where necessary, and really captures the feeling of the book. Not so sure about Annie Lennox personally, Enya would've been better, but that's not a major point.

Blasphemy! You utter a word against the lord John Williams?! What's wrong with a nice bit of triumphal brass? Empty?! Pah!

I find John Williams' scores to be somewhat 'samey'. Once you've heard one you've heard them all. Mainly though, I don't think he'd have suited LotR.

I haven't heard the CD, but I liked the music in the film itself. One thing I've been thinking about recently is that lots of film soundtracks have a "signature", that's just 2 or 3 bars long. This certainly applies to LotR and Pirates of the Caribbean. I think it's called "The Fellowship Theme" in LotR, although I'm not certain about that. Anyway, it was interesting to hear a more triumphant version of that here (particularly given the comments about John Williams above).
