That's great news. It really was getting far too crowded in there and the queues were just ridiculous. I frequently decide against buying anything just so I don't have to queue for 10 minutes. Excellent news, shame it's a bit off the beaten track. (Although not as far as the small branch I discovered in a service station on the M4)

In which case, it's not there any more. Or at least I didn't spot it last time I went in. I think I was the first customer they'd had in in quite a while, at least if the length of time the bloke behind the till spent talking to me was anything to go by.

The new megastore is now open, although it still seems to be slightly under construction. It looks like it's the same opening hours as the older branch - 10-7 Mon-Fri, and 10-6 Saturday (I didn't notice whether or not they're open on Sundays).

The new branch is definitely bigger, and a lot more spacious. The ground floor is all toys (cheap-ish action figures and ridiculously expensive statues), magazines, and calendars. Comics are downstairs with books, videos, and DVDs.

The layout of the books needs a bit of work, although I did see a guy shifting them around while I was there, so this may improve soon. For instance, the Star Trek books are in two banks of shelves labelled "Star Wars books". And the new "New Frontier" paperback that I wanted wasn't actually with the rest of the series - it was in the "new books" section. That makes a kind of sense, although I'd be inclined to put copies in both places. It's also a bit confusing that they have several banks of new books, spread around the floor. Terry Pratchett now has a bank of shelves to himself, so his stuff doesn't appear anywhere near the "P" section of general authors anymore. In fact, his bank of shelves is between the till and the staircase, which means that it's behind you when you come dowstairs, so I couldn't actually find his stuff until I asked one of the staff for help. Also, they have the new Discworld hardback, but not the new Discworld paperback.

When I came to pay (about 10 minutes before closing time), there was no queue at all. And they have a till downstairs (which I went to) as well as upstairs.

All in all, I think it has potential.

( is an article about the new store. Apparently the old shop will be used as "an 'outlet store' ... read place to sell off the old stock cheap." This can only be a good thing for us! FP has always been on the expensive side...
