"We must have courage, faith and chocolate fudge cake."

I was born way back in 1979 on a snowy day in January, In contrast to most of the well travelled members of the society I always lived within about 5 miles of where I was born, living mostly in Ilford in East London/Essex (don't even think about that oh so funny joke you know!).

Most of my formative years were spent doing nothing more interesting than going to school, watching TV, playing computer games and reading.

My infamous bossiness manifested itself at Woodford County High, my secondary school. I was sixth form committee chair for a year, which meant I had over 100 people I could boss around. None of them listened of course, so nothing has changed. I also spent a few years running the Science Fiction Society (we called it Club 42, witty huh?) putting on classic (cough) videos, holding in depth discussion ("Mulder is much better looking than Riker..." etc) and holding high quality events (Gazpacho Soup day was a huge hit!). Again... nothing changes.

I for some reason decided Physics was the subject for me (everybody is allowed one mistake) and trundled to IC. I met Michelle when we were put in the same tutorial group on day 3 or so and she hasn't been able to lose me yet. We tentatively introduced ourselves to icsf by hiding in a corner, being quiet and hoping no one would notice us. It doesn't seem to have worked. Having been noticed, I set about trying to organise this group of misfits (well first I tried sorting out the filing cabinet and worked my way up), however I'm yet to have any success. Falling into my apparently life time role of sorting, organising and archiving (both my parents were librarians, I think it's their fault) I was ChairEntity for a year and secretary for two. I've also had a bit of a hand in organising Picocon, publishing a fanzine and writing these very WebPages.

I miraculously managed to get a 2:1 Physics MSci and promptly deserted the physics department. I spent a year studying for an MSc in the History of Science, Technology and Medicine at the London Centre for said subjects, based partly at Imperial and partly at UCL and the Wellcome Centre. (mouthfull huh?). Then I worked as E-Communications Officer for The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, which is a fancy way of saying 'webmaster', now I'm at The Royal Television Society doing more of the same.

In my spare time I tend to collapse in front of a dvd player . Oh, you may also have noticed I tend to talk/type a lot!

As for my taste in sf, it's pretty bad really. My dad is quite a big sf fan and my mother tolerated it, so I grew up watching Star Trek, Doctor Who and the like and reading Asimov and Clarke. I'm mostly a media fan, films, TV shows and even books based on shows (cue much sneering). I like big explosions, humour, fun characters, cheesy 60s stuff, minimal deep and meaningful stuff, and anything I can make sarcastic comments along to. I read stuff like Pratchett, Brust, Holt, watch stuff like Star Trek, Buffy and StarGate SG1 and love films like X-Men, The Mummy and Toy Story. You know, quality stuff (grin). Maybe the best indications of my taste is that I adore the Lord of the Rings films but really don't think much of the books.

icsf kinda took over my life (be this good or bad), most of my friends are alumni and I still live with ex-committee members. I freely admit that I'm only happy when I'm stressing about something and have something to organise. I thank icsf and its members for providing stress and disorganisation!
