Wells Society resorted to stealing the artwork for the now infamous poster advertising a forensic science lecture given, appropriately, by a member of the Metropolitan Police Force.

The first that the original artist (who wishes to remain anonymous) knew about the theft was when he saw his drawing displayed around college advertising the event. Somewhat shocked that he hadn't been consulted about the use of the cartoon, he enquired at the FELIX office where the cartoon had been kept and discovered that Wells Soc. had simply appropriated it for their own use.

Dismayed and disillusioned the artist complained bitterly to Wells Soc., who, realising that they could suffer adverse publicity from their actions, quickly apologised and paid for the art work.
