End of day checklist

The following checklist has been designed to make it easy not to forget anything, and to keep the gliders in a good condition. A copy is kept in the glider, please adhere to it at the end of every day, and leave the glider in a condition that you would like to find it in. 496 is kept hangared, so there’s less work to do on this list!

  1. Have you washed the glider?
  2. Is the parachute in a bag in the clubhouse?
  3. Are the batteries charging in the workshops?
  4. Are the ailerons clamped? [Not 496]
  5. Are the airbrakes secured? [Not 496]
  6. Have you put tow-out gear, trestles, and covers in the trailer? [Not 496]
  7. [496 only] Are the covers on the glider?
  8. Is the fuselage strapped down and padded round the strap? [Not 496]
  9. Are the winglets stowed correctly? [Not 496]
  10. Is the tail plane secure? [Not 496]
  11. Is the T/E probe removed? [Not 496]
  12. Are all the rigging aids and pins in the cockpit? [Not 496]
  13. Is the cleaning equipment stowed in the front of the trailer?
  14. Is the D.I. book completed?
Tying down a single-seater for the night
  1. Only tie down if wind is not strong, and severe rain is not expected.
  2. Only tie down if YOU are going to take responsiblity for derigging later.
  3. Park in a safe place, out of the way.
  4. Park perpendicular to wind, into wind wing down.
  5. Remove any valuables, and the parachute, and clean the glider.
  6. Put the waterproof covers and canopy covers on.
  7. Get someone to lift the higher wing up, putting tension on it.
  8. Put a trestle under the wing to hold it in place, under tension.
  9. Use tyres or the tail dolly to secure the rudder and stop weathercocking.
  10. Use wing tape to waterproof static vents, pitot holes, T/E holes, and airbrakes. Put big loops in the tape so it’s obvious to remove it later.
  11. Charge the batteries for the next day.
