IC FAD was founded in 2016 by Priya Gupta as a counterpoint to the STEM life that Imperial students dedicate themselves to. Our founding principle is to use a shared appreciation for fashion and design to allow students to develop their creativity and broaden their interests outside of their day-to-day courses. We had an overwhelming response from the student body- in our first twelve months, over 240 students joined the society and we grew our mailing list to over 600 students!
IC FAD had a busy first year - we published 3 campus-wide magazines, hosted 2 keynote industry speakers, threw 4 socials (some joint with other London universities), spread the festive joy with a Christmas feast and co-ordinated trips to the latest V&A exhibitions. And that's all before the most important event of all - the unforgettable Imperial College Charity Fashion Show (ICCFS).
ICCFS' core purpose is to raise funds for charity in a way that allows us to showcase our favourite fashion and talents for the Imperial student body. In February 2017 we raised more than $2,700 for Cancer Research UK and the Pratham Education Foundation UK.
In 2017, we had an equally busy year starting off with the first London University Modest Fashion Show taking place at SOAS Senate House, in collaboration with LSE, KCL, QMUL and UCL. The event's unique focus on the reconceptualization of a term that carries with it prominent social and political connotations made it an unforgettable event. Expressing modesty through personal insights, the aim was to celebrate diversity, culture and empowerment through fashion all whilst supporting a charitable cause close to the ethos.
Next year we hope to continue the epic legacy of ICCFS with 2019's theme being PSYCHOTROPICA!
The world of fashion never stops so keep up on your game with the latest news.
