What do I wear?
You do not have to wear any special clothing, just make sure it is confortable and easy for you to move in. Leotards are commonly worn in our ballet classes but it is not essential. If you want to purchase any dancewear we recommend going through Dance Depot.
What shoes do I need?
For ballet most members wear ballet shoes, it is up to you if you wish to do the same. For advanced ballet pointe shoes are not essential, but you may wear them if you wish. For both contemporary and jazz members are commonly barefoot, but jazz shoes and foot thongs are also welcome. For tap beginners, tap shoes are not essential simply come in a comfortable pair of trainers and learn the steps...you may even enjoy it so much you want to buy a pair of taps! If you want to purchase any dancewear we recommend going through Dance Depot.
Do I have to have previous dance experience to attend your classes?
No, no previous dance experience is required! All of our beginners classes welcome new dancers, we would be delighted to see you in class. The advanced level classes may be difficult if you have not danced previously, but you are more than welcome to try.
What level are your classes?
Our beginners classes are aimed at new and less experienced dancers. They tend to have easier choreography, taught at a slower pace, with new moves fully explained and work on improving your technique. Our advanced classes are aimed at those with previous dance experience. The choreography is more complex, taught at a fast pace, with regular technique practice.
Who teaches your classes?
Our classes are taught by our fabulous directors and some current dance company members. Ballet is taught by our professional teacher, Nina Rostron.

How do I join the competition team?
To join the competition team you must attend the auditions in the autumn term. For more information on competitions please click here.
How much does it cost?
Each discipline is £10 per term, ballet is £17. Or if you wish to buy all four it is only £40 for the term. You can purchase these online here. Alternatively each class is £2 for members and £3 for non-members.For ballet it is £3 for members and £4 for non-members.
Where do I get membership from?
Annual membership to join Dance Company is £10. Membership can be bought here. Not an Imperial student? Don’t worry; you can still become a member of Dance Company! You will need to either become an associate or life member of the Union. More information on membership can be found here.
What opportunities are there to perform?
You can perform as part of our competition team. If you don't wish to audition there are many other opportunities throughout the year. We hold a christmas showcase for our members to display what has been learnt in class. You can also perform in the annual Dance Imperial Show, which happens in the spring term. Other performance opportunities often come up through the year, so keep your eyes peeled on our social media pages!
