Major Event is an annual musical production written, composed, and performed by members of the Imperial College Singapore Society. This year, it was held on 29 February 2020 at the Great Hall in Imperial College
The stage and production crew arrived early in the morning to prepare the venue and to conduct final rehearsals.
This year’s show, Under Construction: The Musical explores the story of Aaron, an idealistic JC student who is passionate about literature, but set to study medicine as per the wishes of his overprotective mother. He meets aspiring poet-migrant worker Shabeer, and is inspired to help him translate and publish his work.
Aaron is helped along the way by his friend and classmate Benjamin, a fiercely practical young man, and Jasmine, a poly biomed student who is also a compassionate muay thai instructor. Confident in almost all she does, except when it comes to her academic ability, she secretly harbours a dream of studying medicine.
Problems surface back in Shabeer’s hometown, and also in the form of Boon Kiat, Benjamin’s younger brother, a troublemaker misunderstood because of his mild ADHD.
Through moments emotional and comedic, this musical explores what it takes to build an inclusive society, and the roles that we all play, intentionally and otherwise.
