Orchestra

Orchestra, is not only the most fun orchestra at Imperial (probably the world) with plenty of socials, weekend away, and post-rehearsal drinks; we also find time to play some top notch music ranging from Mozart to John Williams.

We rehearse Tuesday evenings from 7pm in the Reynolds Basement Music Room.

During the year, there will also be an opportunity for one lucky soloist to perform a concerto with the orchestra. Other opportunities include a voice solo every so often. Furthermore, we offer the chance to play in smaller ensemble settings, such as string quartets and piano duets. A lot of our players go on to play in different settings throughout the year, from large events like formal dinners and being in the pit band for Light Opera’s annual flagship musical production, to more intimate environments like restaurants and mingles.

No audition is needed to join orchestra and we accept players at any point during the year, no matter their experience, course or year. Have a listen to some of our recordings (on the website) or look at our photos to see how much fun we have!

Our conductor, Kim Alipio, will lead the orchestra through an exciting programme this autumn term. Previous years have included:

Saint Saens – Bacchanale
Beethoven – Symphony no.9 ‘Pastorale’
Elgar – Enigma Variations
Sibelius – Finlandia
Tchaikovsky – Romeo and Juliet
Khachaturian – Masquerade Suite

Team Orchestra are already very excited to welcome you this coming academic year and will ensure you have the best time at Imperial!

If you are interested in joining the orchestra or have any questions please get in touch with one of our Orchestra managers, Maria or Diogo.
