Imperial College Sinfonietta is a full symphony orchestra, led by the professional conductor William Carslake, formed over 20 years ago. We play a wide variety of enjoyable and challenging repertoire, from classical to modern and from film scores to opera choruses, to a high standard.
Last year’s concerts included our highly successful 20th anniversary concert where we performed Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg Overture and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 12, and our other concerts included pieces such as Tschaikovsky’s Symphony No. 2 and Malcolm Arnold’s Peterloo Overture. We rehearse every Monday at 6pm, followed by drinks. We have a highly deserved reputation as being a very sociable orchestra, with social events organised throughout the year, and our weekend away in first term is a great chance for new players to get to know us.
Our fun-loving nature does not detract from our playing, however, and we put on fantastic performances two or three times a year in the Great Hall, and we offer the chance for talented young soloists to perform concertos with us and aspiring conductors to lead us. We are also one of the most travelled musical societies, touring to locations such as Croatia, Romania, Valencia and most recently, Prague, with another tour planned for the Summer.
