Chair Entity Waffle

or How I learned to stop worrying and love ICSF

Welcome to another issue of this fine publication, Wyrmtongue. I would like to welcome you especially if you are a new member: you're in good company - over seventy of us so far. It's already been a couple of weeks since our fresher's event Femtocon, which was a great success. Even though there were a few glitches setting up the equipment, such as it not being plugged in, everything started fine. There is something about being able to destroy all opposition facing you with a variety of pulse rifles, rocket launchers etc. - and the LAN gaming was fun too....

The quiz was also very popular, and the knowledge of some of the teams was most impressive, especially in the unlimited entry rounds. Although we did get the feeling that some of the supposed Lord of the Rings place names were made up on the spot...

Add Monty Python and The Matrix into this equation, and it's no wonder that we had at least fifty people turn up at some point or another. Many, many thanks to all who made it possible - you know who you are.

Having captured many new members, we traipsed around London last Saturday on a bookcrawl. The shock on the owner's face as twenty of us trooped into the Fantasy Bookstore was quite something to behold, but he seemed quite mollified by the time we left with our bags heavier - and our wallets lighter. We then went on a wild spree in central London, broken only for all-we-could-eat pizza, which was a fairly significant amount, if only because Phil ate half his bodyweight...

Finally we went to Notting Hill, not to see Madonna or Hugh Grant, but more cheap books - and which would you rather have: a bigger library or some tale about how we saw some celebrity muppet and how they smiled at us honest they did...

Anyway, the library now has some nice shiny new stock, so get out there and read it - apart from the stuff I want to read first!

P.S. We have had an unfortunate amount of stuff go missing - if you have anything at home and have not taken it out on the computer, please let us know, because otherwise we think it's missing. Every item which is borrowed must be entered into the computer - please prod the duty librarian to do this before taking stuff. After all, the less stuff we have to replace, the more new stuff we can buy!
