1998-1999
The year started in our brand new library and the extra space proved very popular with large numbers of people regularly sitting on the sofa and cushions eating lunch and watching videos. Many of the events of the term were centred around the tv including a double showing of the B5 films Thirdspace and In The Beginning, and a Star Wars Marathon. There were also trips to the Museum of the Moving Image and DangerCon - a Dangermouse convention. Cinema trips were as popular as ever and included The Matrix, Alien:Resurrection and the live action Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Prince Charles Cinema. Picocon 16's guests were Stephen Lawhead, M. John Harrison, Jane Johnson and Gabriel King as special guests. A dual stream was run through the day with serious panels and author talks and silly quizzes and sketches. The computer network running deathmatch Quake games also proved very popular. The film Dark City was shown in the icu cinema to finish the day.
Due to lack of submissions there was no fanzine this year but there were 4 issues of Wyrmtongue throughout the year. Michael, Michelle and Lorna redesigned the website (the previous incarnation of this site) over the summer and compiled a large amount of information on society history and alumni. The library broke the 4000 items mark during this year as well. However the year ended with us once again packing everything into boxes and saying goodbye to the library with no idea where we would be put for the following year.
