Goth Party - Many fans of SF, Fantasy and horror will have encountered the goth movement through art, literature, poetry and film... This is an introduction to their music.

Despite a minor panic at the start of the year following the sudden departure of James Ramirez, the elected chair, the Fresher's events went well. Weekly showings of Babylon 5 proved very efficient at recruiting certain quiet Freshers and the lack of space in the library meant that they found it hard to escape. In the winter term was a Goth party for Halloween, and the weekly barnights were started up. The icsf-list and icsf-fantasy list servers were set up to allow easy online conversation between members.

A large number of the events were film showings and cinema trips, including Dark Crystal and Interview with a Vampire in icu, Star Wars and Alien marathons in DOC, and Aliens:Resurrection, Contact, Starship Troopers and Lost in Space at other local cinemas. There was also a trip to a production of Guards! Guards! At the end of the year a trip to the 1st and only showing of the B5 film In the Beginning on a West End big screen with appearances by Bruce Boxleitner and Jerry Doyle. On a more literary note there were talks from Stephen Baxter and creative writing workshops developing the world of New Karse.

Picocon 15

This year's Picocon was slightly hindered by a lack of authors, however it gave the opportunity for multiple panels, role-playing sessions and quizzes. It was wrapped up by a showing of The Princess Bride in the icu cinema.

Society Fanzine - Synergy

The end of the third term was spent decorating and moving into the new icsf library. Located almost directly under Beit Quad arch, down a small, dark corridor and surrounded by outdoor clubs it doesn't sound that great. However, after many hours of work, many pots of paint, and the removal of many egg boxes from the walls (apparently for improved sound quality for its previous incarnation as Jazz Rock's practice room) it turned into quite a nice room. Synergy, this years fanzine was published for the end of the year with the usual collection of stories, articles and art work.
