NeverWhere

Videos and film showings were the emphasis of the year, with multiple films in the cinema and video showings in everywhere from the SCR to Mech. Eng. lecture theatres. Winter term showings included marathons of Star Wars, Red Dwarf and NeverWhere. There were also trips to Sega World and paintballing, although no record seems to have been made of the results. The society newsletter Wyrmtongue was founded by keen fresher Michael Wright. Five issues were published throughout the course of the year and featured fiction produced by society members and reviews of films and books.

Picocon 14

The second term was dominated by Picocon 14, this year held on a Sunday, with guests Simon Ings and Nicholas Royle. There were several quizzes, author talks and a balloon debate with 4 guests arguing that the sf character they had chosen to play should not be thrown out of the balloon. Unfortunately no record has been kept of who the characters were, or who went splat! The film in the evening was Hackers, shown on the icu cinema big screen.

Metathesis

Other events of the term included Strange Days, Dune, Twelve Monkeys and Delicatessen in the icu cinema, a Vampire:Masquerade role playing session and many more videos in the icsf library. There also seems to have been a trip to see Guards! Guards! at the theatre, although we seem to have this listed for several years (grin). The icsf fanzine - Paradigm was published with the usual mixture of factual articles, including the Picocon Papers and several works of fiction.
