1988 - 1989
Picocon 7's guests were Dave Langford, Terry Pratchett, Gerry Webb and Dave Lally. The films shown this year were Predator, Aliens, Innerspace,Witches of Eastwick, The Thing, Terminator, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Robocop and Deadzone The Waking Edge, the first fanzine for 4 years included contributions from Julian Bills, David Clements, Y Kontoulis, Wlodek Mier-Jedzrejowicz (erm.. real name?), David Leigh, Simon Bradshaw, Richard Smith and Simon Spero. 1988-1990 in the words of Simon Bradshaw - "To be honest, a lot of 88-89 and 89-90 blurs together; we had talks from Jack Cohen and Brian Stableford during that period, but I wouldn't swear as to in which year. Tuesday-evening film shows in in ME220 were an established ritual, with pizzas from Southside for the set-up crew before the film and a few beers in the Union Bar afterwards. Every few months we had a book-buying outing to Forbidden Planet (which moved twice in my time at ICSF, finally occupying its current site); these were always great fun, as is usually the case when spending someone else's money." "Also at this time, ICSF was very dominant in the Social Clubs Committee; Dave Clements was SCC Chair 88-89, and was followed by Tom Yates, whilst I was Vice-Chair both years. We were also one of the largest clubs at College at the time, with 400 members thanks to our policy of making people join in order to watch films."
