As has become a tradition, we started off the year with Femtocon for the freshers.
The Bookcrawl was exceptionally successful - the Fantasy Centre donated 10
boxes of books to us. It took about a term to catalogue them, and filing them
took even longer. And we still ended up donating on seven boxes of books.
This year also saw the society's move towards DVDs over VHS - we replaced the
whole of Babylon 5, as well as numerous other films and series with their DVD
equivalent.
The Society held trips to see Serenity and the Aliens Exhibition at the
Science museum. Barnights happened with alcoholic regularity.
Picocon 23 happened, as Picocons do, and despite a
little early panic about not having a union available. This year the guests were
Ian Watson (again), Mark Roberts and Natasha Mostert.
The library was cleaned for the first time since we moved to the Media Centre.
Cristina's comment "Vertical dust is a bad sign" pretty much sums up that event,
although we did manage to squeeze an extra bookshelf in (by moving the
television) - much needed after the Fantasy Centre donation. Around that time we got a new widescreen television and a new library computer, Archipelago, to
replace the aging Kookaburra.
The construction of the new society mascot Miranda, the Pride of Skaros
was begun (from various, hopefully tough, materials) to replace the aging
Norfolk.
