Our new library!

As has become a tradition, we started off the year with Femtocon for the freshers.

This was the year that people became Firefly-obsessed. Weekly showings in the library guaranteed this. There were also Farscape video evenings, which were sadly less successful.

Star Trek: Nemesis and Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers were on at the cinema. We enjoyed them. Then there was the new-Solaris, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Daredevil, X-Men 2 and Matrix Reloaded, which were perhaps not enjoyed quite so much but were still not bad.

Magic the Gathering evenings regularly took place, and we even ran our own (friendly) Sealed Deck tournament.

January saw the launch of the ICSF newsboard on the website.

Picocon 20 happened, as Picocons have a habit of doing. This year the guests were Jack Cohen and Gwyneth Jones, the film was Twelve Monkeys, and much fun was had by all, despite the non-appearance of Eric the Mutant Tentacle Monster of Certain Delight.

Alex held a writing competition for Wyrm, where people were to write a story based upon a picture.

Matt Kaplan got us to go along to "The Science behind Jurassic Park" at the Natural History Museum's relatively newly-opened Darwin Centre. This was a fun evening, although most of us were too shy to actually participate in the discussion. We also gathered to see the James Bond Exhibition.

In summer, we trundled off to Brighton for sea, sand, doughnuts and Magic cards.

Finishing off the year with a cinema trip to Pirates of the Carribean, which met with everyone's enthusiastic approval and a resurgence of pirate-mania which would last for years.
