The Bioengineering Society is a student run organisation sponsored by Imperial College London’s Department of Bioengineering. Its function is to provide opportunities for social and formal interaction for bioengineering undergraduate and postgraduates in order to enrich the university experience and also provide networking opportunities with academics and professionals interested in engineering and medicine. Each year a Bioengineering conference is organised with the University of Oxford’s Biomedical Engineering Society, which brings a variety of academic and commercial professionals together with students of both societies for a day.
The society’s main objectives are:
- Help students fully explore the career opportunities available for biomedical engineering graduates
- Strengthen partnerships with universities and businesses by providing meaningful networking opportunities
- Promote Biomedical engineering in the community
- Raise commercial interest in bioengineering students within industry and research
The City and Guilds College Union (CGCU) is the student body of the Faculty of Engineering at Imperial College in London. We are part of the Imperial College Union, which represents all 6,000 students of Imperial College. Our students range from a far a breadth as Computing and Electronics to Geology and Health Management. However, all these programmes of study have one aspect in common – they all hone the essential skills, competence and attributes that make our students different from Scientific and Medical students.
The role we play in the life of our members is one that is consistently adapting to what they want. We provide essential services that not only extend the experience of college beyond the academic side, but also enhance and support it.
To our students, we remain one of the most fundamentally important aspects of life at Imperial College, partly due to the enthusiasm of our students who become involved in helping provide these services. For reasons largely historical and political, we are named City & Guilds College Union, after the Constituent College that first helped form Imperial College.
Mauritius, often referred to as “The Paradise Island” boasts a multicultural society, widely known for its kaleidoscope of cultures, traditions, unique beaches and cuisine. It is a highly touristic island and has recently been awarded the highly prestigious 2010 World’s Leading Island Destination award for the second time in a row. We wish to introduce the Mauritian identity and culture to the international community at Imperial: who would love to share their unique aspects of our island with students that are keen to know more! Welcoming both Mauritians and non-Mauritians to join the Society, please visit us on http://dougal.union.ic.ac.uk/osc/mauritian/index.html and buy membership online on the union website.
