House rules and submission guidelines

When posting messages on this site, or uploading content such as photos or videos, please ensure that they do not break the house rules that follow. These rules are in place so that everyone can enjoy their use of the site.

Be aware that inappropriate content may be moderated or removed without warning and persistent offenders may have their site accounts and/or club memberships suspended.

Please do...

  • Keep your content relevant to the topic and with good taste.
  • Respect other users and their opinions, even if you do not agree with them.
  • Post your own original content and not any copied from elsewhere.
  • Write your messages in English, although commonly understood words or phrases in other languages is fine.

Please do not...

  • Post content that may damage the reputations of the club or the Union. In particular, any complaints should be directed to the committee by email or via the Contact us page on this site.
  • Post offensive content, swear, be rude or be otherwise distasteful.
  • Reveal personal information about you or anyone else, including full names and contact details.
  • Post multiple messages together, or the same or similar comment more than once.

Please note that...

  • ICU Snooker may use your posted content across the web site, in articles we write, in our promotional activities or in other relevant and appropriate ways, and by using the site you accept that we may do this.
  • Comments posted by users are their views: they are not those of the club and the club is not responsible for their content.

House rules governing elections

In addition to the above, election candidates and their supporters must also comply with the following rules in order to maintain a fair competition.

These rules apply to candidates' manifestos, campaign material and publicity, whether on this site or elsewhere, as well as during speeches at hustings.

Candidates should note that the Returning Officer for the election may moderate or remove without warning any unsuitable content and that they may be disqualified from all current and future elections should they break any of these rules.

You can read the full text of Regulation 4 (Elections and Referenda) of the Imperial College Union Constitution, of which these rules are a summarised part, on the College web site.

Comments

  • Comments must be appropriate to the election and the place where the comment is made.
  • Candidates may only refer to other candidates by way of:
    • statements made by those candidates
    • conduct by candidates previously or currently on the committee and related to their role.
  • Such references must:
    • be relevant to a candidate's integrity or ability
    • be based on fact and must be proved to the Returning Officer if it is challenged by the candidate in question
    • not relate to a person's character, except where demonstrated by other statements or conduct.

Publicity and campaigning

  • Candidates must not issue publicity before the close of nominations.
  • Any publicity must not include the logos or symbols nor imply the support of the club, Union or College.
  • Candidates are not permitted to use any mailing list, including those of the club, to promote their campaigns.
  • Supporters must follow the same rules as candidates, who are responsible for their supporters' actions.
