Here are some of the questions we get asked the most. We'll add to this list as time progresses.
If you have a question that is not answered here and you can't find out from the rest of the site, contact us and we'll do our best to reply with the information you need.
All the details are on our How to join page.
Contact us and we can arrange to meet up and make you a replacement card, or ask a committee member if you visit the snooker rooms. Remember to provide us with a passport-sized photograph just like when you joined the club, either by email or in person.
However, please note that anyone found to have given their card to someone else may be banned from using the snooker rooms and taking part in our activities.
There are many ways in which players can get noticed:
Online elections for the following season's committee are held towards the end of each Spring Term. The committee will send out more details when the time comes. To win an election, you will need to demonstrate your positive involvement in club activities throughout the year and, by submitting a manifesto, show all of the club's members why your addition to the committee will be beneficial to them and the club as a whole.
To get an idea of what the committee does to keep the club running smoothly, you can view their role descriptions.
Email us and we can easily reset your password. Your user name will not be changed. The email you will be sent will contain all the information you need in order to reactivate your account.
We only moderate user-submitted comments if they break the house rules. The rules are in place so that we can act upon submissions that might get the club into trouble with the Union. You might not have realised you were breaking them but we will nevertheless alter or remove comments where we find it necessary and we will advise you on how you can avoid this in the future.
Regular development to the site means that sometimes the odd thing doesn't work and we apologise if this affects your enjoyment of the site. Please contact us about the problem, explaining what you were trying to do and what browser and device you were using. We'll try to fix the problem as soon as possible.
We would love to hear it and indeed any comments or feedback you may have. Please contact us and share your thoughts!
The full rules of the game can be found on the World Snooker web site.
The miss rule was designed to prevent players from deliberately missing the next ball on. The recent application of the rule in the professional game forces players to successfully escape from a snooker or face the balls being replaced.
We don't expect our club players to be able to get out of every snooker so in our tournaments, we apply a version of the miss rule such that a miss will not be called if a player is snookered. Additionally, the match needs to be refereed or both players need to be of team standard, since the rule is played in this way at the national university BUCS Snooker Championships.
Note that deliberate misses will still be punished in all matches by a miss being called and a warning given to the striker. You can read the full text of the modified rule on our Tournament regulations page.
