About the Club

Jez takes many outings over the year to which all students of Imperial College are welcome to attend. These include the HCVS and VCC Brighton Runs, RAG events and pub crawls.

Find out what we do, where we go and how to get involved. If you'd like to have Jez at one of your events this section provides the information you need.

Why not have a look at the events we take part in, or photos from previous events.

History of Jez

The RCS Motor Club was set up in 1955 to maintain "Jezebel", a 1916 Dennis N type fire engine and a mascot of the Students of the Royal College of Science.

LP8389 started service with the London Fire Brigade in 1916. She served with them until 1932, when she was retired and bought by Crosfield, a soap manufacturers in Warrington. (more...)

How Jez Works

Jezebel is fitted with a 9120cc engine rated at 60hp. It is of a four cylinder design (cylinders cast in pairs), with a five inch bore and seven inch stroke. The cylinder blocks are designed with a valve on either side of the cylinder with a cap above each valve to allow it's extraction, the combustion chamber is otherwise enclosed (no removable head). Historical Archive

RCS Motor Club, along with other N Type owners around the world, has compiled a large amount of information about the history of the model. We also have details on the London Fire Brigade, where Jez was stationed for the first part of her life.

Visit the archive for information on other vehicles like Jez and where they ended up, as well as some snippets about how fire fighting in London developed.
