The first project of its kind at the University, Imperial Racing Green draws on expertise from across Imperial College's Faculty of Engineering, building low emissions, hydrogen fuel cell, and battery electric vehicles to compete in races across the globe. Imperial Racing Green is an undergraduate teaching project at Imperial College London involving almost 100 students across 8 different engineering departments. We are the only UK team to participate in the world’s first ever hydrogen fuel cell race series, Formula Zero, along with teams from the US, Spain, the Netherlands and Belgium. As well as competing in the Formula Zero championships, Imperial Racing Green compete in the new low carbon category (Class 1a) of the IMechE’s Formula Student competition. With the experience of entering a fuel cell hybrid vehicle into the 2009 event and winnning the prize for 'Most Innovative Engineering Design', the team are now currently working towards their first full size battery electric track vehicle to enter into the 2011 Formula Student competition. The team are continuing to carry out research into fuel cells and their application to race vehicles, with the intention of producing a fuel cell powered track vehicle for 2012.
