Trip Report
Standard trip procedure was followed flawlessly on Friday night: faff loading boats, long bus journey, arrive around 1am, drink til 3:30. The only novelties were an extended trip round the Shrewsbury one way system and Wardle overtaking the bus then opening the door and leaning out to wave.
On Saturday, there being no chance of any proper water, we got up late and went to the Tryweryn. Simon nearly conquered the main section, with only one silly swim. Everybody got on to do the section down to Bala, including three people who'd never been in a kayak before. Swim count: Andras 4 (started overly enthusiastically then calmed down with the help of a few hand of god rescues); Beatrix 4 (started amazingly then got cold); Tim 10 (room for improvement).
Many people then went to watch the rugby, with a small contingent heading back to light the fire. Chilli with only slightly burnt rice was enjoyed (mystery vegetable: beetroot). The bulge in Will's bunny costume was admired. Many hut virgins successfully conquered the ladder. An abominable Circle of Death was perpetrated: six kings and ~120 cards. Tom was ringmeister, got the last king, made a good attempt at the dirty pint (active ingredient: fruity Baileys), and chundered immediately. Innovative new rules: 5 = up ladder and down pole singing Archers theme tune; "everyone is question master"; "not allowed to be nasty". The evening drew to a close at around 2am, an unusually good showing for a Saturday.
Sunday brought sunshine and a covering of snow on Snowdon - still less-than-bugger-all water. Tom and Will elected to set up an orienteering route on the hill behind the hut. Six hardy souls missioned off to run the mighty Dee; a good run, with Andras staying upright on Town Falls and Simon completing the whole run without a swim (including a roll on Town Falls). Everyone eventually congregated in Llangollen for rugby or chips. After yet another running-out-of-fuel-near-Birmingham panic, we made it back to stores by 10pm.
