This wasn't a proper trip, and this isn't a proper trip report, just a wee sumary.

It wasn't a proper trip because we didn't do any canoeing! About 10 of us went to wales, all non-beginners, to do a spot safety training. Saturday was spent at Plas y Brenin with Derek Brooks. This safety expert had over 30 years of kayaking experience. He taught us about safe canoeing kit, and the correct safety equipment to be using on rivers, and later we got cold and wet trying out some rescue techniques with him. The session was very useful and educational for all present.

Rob has written some notes on what we learned: View notes PDF document

As usual my recollection of the evening hut activities is a little hazy. I'm sure it involved beer and all the usual shinanigans. On Sunday we were back out on the river, or rather in the river, and practicing some of the things we'd learned the day before. Onlookers were puzzled as we faffed around with lots of throwlines in full canoeing clobber, but without actually having any canoes with us.
