Trip Report
Despite having a nine-seater bus with loads of space, we still managed to pretty much fill it with junk, including a huge number of chairs and a surf shoe. Rik eventually turned up having paddled from work (!), and we departed. Due to the union catering now being rubbish and taking 45min to get served, we were all hungry, and stopped at the services very soon. Traffic was actually not too bad, and we made it to South Wales in a reasonable time. Upon arrival we set up tents, drank a bottle of whisky and retired to bed.
The weather on Saturday seemed quite nice, considering the appalling forecast. We headed to the beach at Rossili, to discover that it was blowing a gale. The waves were quite big (~ 3-4'), but the wind was blowing so hard that it was very hard going. The cross-wind on a raised paddle blade had considerable force, the spray off the crests of the waves was blowing horizontally, and in general it was all rather unpleasant. Most people got on, but not many lasted very long. Instead we played frisbee and football, both involving lots of running after things disappearing rapidly towards the sea.
