3-in-1 Freshers’ Package

Thank you for your overwhelming support at UKBound – Lavish! Congratulations to Yong Qian and Samantha for winning the pageant! Photos of the event will be available on our website and Facebook page shortly.

As you embark on your trip to London, you will be beginning a new chapter of your life. We know that the process of getting there and settling into a new life in London is daunting as we’ve been through this before! So fret not, we are here to help you out here as much as we can. We have put in place a series of post-arrival events to help ease your transition into your London life.

1. Freshers’ Walkabout: 1st Oct 2011 (Sat)
This would be a quick walkabout around your neighbourhood with seniors who have stayed in the same hall before, right after we have dropped you off at your Halls. Your seniors would help you familiarise yourself with your environment, such as getting grocery from supermarkets like Sainsbury’s, household necessities from Argos, and if you are lucky, show you the shortest route to school (especially useful for days when you oversleep). They would also be bringing you around to get essentials that you will need to survive your first few days in London (e.g. duvets, pillows, cutlery, SIM card). This walkabout would be your best chance to get tips and advice from your Hall seniors for life in and around your halls, so remember to be there!

If you have yet to register your hall information, please do so here so that we could contact you for the walkabout as soon as possible.

2. Tour London: 8th Oct 2011 (Sat)
Offering free walking tours in London, ICSS OGL Tours is dedicated to providing all Freshers, no matter of budget, with the best tour available. It is our goal to help ICSS Freshers fully discover the beauty and rich history of as many sights in central London as possible. Tours are conducted by your very own Sojourn OGLs, and allow you to tour some of the major attractions* in London with your new made friends in your OG. Hear our ‘local’ expert guides** share with you their personal stories and insights during this riveting walkabout, only on 8th Oct!

* Attractions covered include Buckingham Palace, Oxford Street, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and London Eye, Hyde Park, Piccadilly Circus. Do consult your individual tour guides for more information about the exact itinerary closer to the date.

** Disclaimer: Each tour is subject to our individual tour guide’s unique style of mixing history and story-telling while maintaining their own personality and flair. Any opinions made by our tour guides are not representative of Imperial College Singapore Society.

3. Freshers’ Hyde Park Picnic: 15th Oct 2011 (Sat)
Mark down your 2nd Saturday in London on your calendar, as you would be participating in one of the largest-scale societal-wide event on 15th Oct! Held in Imperial’s very own backyard, Hyde Park, Freshers’ Hyde Park Picnic would be a great chance for you to get to meet seniors in a relaxed environment over a lovely picnic on the grassy patches – London style. Sports events in the picnic will also allow you to showcase your sporting skills in football, Frisbee, touch rugby and more. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to lay back and relax with fellow Imperial Singaporeans before kiasu-ism kicks in (and turn everyone into full-time muggers) for the school term!

Sojourn – Going Medieval

Hello Freshers,

Thank you for signing up with us for Sojourn 2011!

Just a friendly reminder, details of our Freshers’ Orientation camp are as follows:

Sojourn – Going Medieval!

Dates: 19 to 21 August 2011
Venue: Sentosa
Meeting time and venue: 0800 h at Vivo City Tram Station
Fees: $45 ($65 package with Lavish)
[Welcome Pack] [Indemnity Form] [Facebook Events Page]
Contact us for tickets!

Over the 3D2N camp, you’re going to have a ton of fun making new friends, playing (good, clean) silly games, and having plenty of heart-to-heart talks, all in sunny Sentosa.

The whole point of Sojourn is for you to meet and get to know the people you’ll be going to Imperial College with. Whether it be freshers, second or third years, we want all the Singaporeans in our cosy little society to be friends with one another!

Your Orientation Group Leaders (OGLs) will be contacting you within this week with more details to our camp. The packing list as well as the photographs of your very own OGLs are also in our Welcome Pack for your reference. If you’re still a lost soul a few days before camp, feel free to contact us.

Do remember to bring your signed indemnity form on the first day of Sojourn! If you are under 21, you’ll need to get a parent/guardian’s signature on it. If you have yet to submit your camp fees of $45 (or $65 for Sojourn + Lavish Package), do remember to bring the exact amount and submit it to your OGLs as well.

If you have any burning queries, do contact us, and join our Facebook group.

Look forward to our little adventure together! For photos of last year’s sojourn, click here!

Welcome to the family: From the Imperial College Singapore Society

This is the email sent to all the freshers through the international office. You can download a PDF version here.

Hello!

I’m Joshua Goh, President of the 29th Executive Committee of Imperial College Singapore Society (ICSS). First of all, allow me to congratulate you on being offered a place at one of the world’s most prestigious Universities! You have been shortlisted as one of our potential freshmen for the upcoming academic year, and should you decide to take up the offer, you will be following in the footsteps of many Singaporeans here at Imperial pursuing both undergraduate and post-graduate degrees.

Indeed, I speak on behalf of many Singaporeans here in London when I say that we’re excited to have you as part of our community. The ICSS has upheld a long-standing tradition of being a “home away from home”, where you can speak in Singlish and not feel alienated, talk about strange sounding foods and not get quizzical looks, or just call yourself Singaporean and be proud of it. In particular, ICSS looks after the needs of Singaporeans in Imperial and in the wider London community, thus it explains our enthusiasm to help you get prepared as quickly and comfortably as possible. I am sure that you must be excited about the prospects of studying in London, and at the same time brimming with questions about personal, financial and immigration issues related to the big move overseas. Not to worry, we’re here to help! Read more »
