Past Events DeshioDawat The end of our 2001-02 pain was marked by a pilgrimage/invasion of Brick lane followed by a knees up and a 10 to the car dash to spiritual homeland #2, Edgeware Road. blah blah blah.
On Monday 11th February about 80 students attended an event called ‘Welcome to the Real World’. The organisers were rather pleased with the turnout, given that IC students are generally apolitical, self absorbed and ugly (in both body and spirit). In the past months the Coalition for Bloodlust and the Globalisation of Greedy Capitalism has shown its contempt for human life and suffering by killing more that 9000 Afghani non combatants. A mockery has been made of what exists of international law, certain ‘strong’ countries are not accountable to anybody other than their own interests, which are in turn dictated to them by rich and greasy agents for malevolent causes, and of course your high street bank. There is a need to look beyond the rhetoric that emanates from the foaming mouths of the rabid war dogs (even though that sentence was fun). We must look to the root causes of injustice and redress them. At present the foreign policies of our governments and the closed circles that govern them are doing a great disservice to mankind. George Galloway MP drew an analogy of the Special Relationship that our government is pursuing with its partner in crime. We play the role of the disposable and used Lewinsky to the dominant and self-indulgent Clinton. It is not in the interest of the United Kingdom to associate, and involve itself in such brutish activities. We will end up worse of. The Stop the War Coalition is the collective effort of over 120 organisations, MPs, intellectuals, artisans, students, journalists, lawyers and activists. The aim is quite clear: to stop the war currently declared by the United States and its allies against terrorism. To find out more visit, http://www.stopwar.org.uk/ We will leave you with a picture that Pablo Picasso made for the Peace Movement and hope that you enjoy colouring it in.
Our natok went well. A big kiss and thank you everyone involved.

14th Nov 2.30 pm Laser Quest In light of the
unfortunate tragedies that have been rocking the globe in recent weeks and
months, late this Wednesday afternoon our fair city of London bore witness to
yet another massacre. The quiet suburbs of Archway, an unlikely setting for an
event of such shattering consequences saw a clash between the almighty rivals of
Imperial College and UCL Bangladeshi Societies. Having eluded our sights
for so long, the UCL finally agreed to the standoff, a battle that would forever
make its mark in history, a struggle that had all the markings of an Armageddon. At around 1430 on
Wednesday 14th November 2001, Imperials finest adorned their armour
of valiant red and took up arms knowing that this could well be their final
fight. Even at such an early hour a foreboding darkness fell over Archway. Yet
in the dimness, flashes of green could be glimpsed, a menacing sign of the evil
close by. The attacks began without warning or signal and the UCL came upon us in ruthless waves. At first we were forced to take a defensive stance to protect our base but within a short while our skilled and expert intelligence system in the form of none other than veteran Andaleeb "Skywatcher" Ahmed had unveiled the assailants dubious tactics and our gallant committee fashioned a new strategy of assault. But firstly friends I should mention the exploits of Anika "Warrior Princess" Ali, our standard bearer, who stood by our base like a rock, often single-handedly staving off the attacks of the hordes of UCL. All this while the others led by our champion and president Mohammed "Hasim" Rahman who managed to make unwarranted advances by his own attacks claiming the largest number of kills. Alongside him was his faithful compatriot Aziz "the Bouncer" whose every shot made its mark. Though wounded, our brave men and women never faltered or wavered, never hesitated nor faded in their determination to take us to glory. They loyally followed our president with hardy conviction in repeated onslaughts against the enemy base. Imperial could see victory glimmering in the distance. The UCL defeat engineered by the astute and devilishly clever masterminds of our strategists, yes dear friends, I am speaking of myself, your faithful reporter, and his unwittingly intellectual fellow Fuad “the Fugstar” Ali. I ploughed the way with a sniper like precision taking out as many as I could as Fuad bravely and steadfastly drew their fire allowing our dauntless forces to ravage the enemy lines. Soon enough the UCL were cowering at the sight of red, they knew that ultimately there was nothing to be done, that in the end triumph was never to be theirs. Dear readers it was all over in an hour, an hour that seemed a time without end. But as the dust settled and the smoke cleared the relentless scene of carnage that lay in wake of this titanic conflict of superpowers was clear and self-evident. Through the ruins, our courageous heroes, the thirteen survivors – among which were the aforementioned emerged victorious, bringing with them the remaining prisoners. It is reported that our success was unprecedented, unmatched and beyond compare, with an astounding 673,000 hits suffered by the UCL their relatively meagre impression of a mere 180,000 was undoubtedly laughable. Obviously, nothing could have withstood an offensive of such colossal degree. That evening we celebrated with a feast along with the prisoners in a gesture of peace among the lively locals in a humble kebab shop that had amazingly avoided the destruction of war. So folks if I may summarise the results of the afternoon’s campaign succinctly: Imperial ONE, UCL NIL! Until next time people this is Ali Jeewajee bringing you the latest right from the centre of the action.

ICU Bangladeshi Society would like to extend their apologies to any members of the public who happened to be at the Memories of India restaurant on the evening of the 17th of October. Your evening out just happened to coincide with our highly successful Fresher’s Dinner. Present were all the usual suspects (aka The ‘committee’) and a couple of friends – reports estimate about 60. In fact, we were so inundated with requests for tickets for the event that a second neighbouring restaurant (of equal gourmet excellence) also had to be booked at the last minute. News of our “small gathering” had obviously spread far and wide – well, as far as Euston at least since we were graced with the presence of members from our sister society at UCL. Much thanks must go to all those who worked so hard to make the night a success (despite some last minute hitches!) especially Mo, Harry, Anika and Shamim. All that remains to be said is brush up on your Bollywood <sic the minister> classics for next year!
Turnout was rather excellent and there was plenty of Kulfi, atakshiri(?) and merriment. We are lucky to have the group of people that we do. It was cosy, at one point we had about 60 people occupying the space of about 12, just like home. The 'unKle' who owned the splendid eating establishments also doubled up as a dealer in the GOLDEN fibre, so for organic and environmentally responsible solutions relating to packaging, carpet, rope, Hessian, paper, fuel, building materials...etc contact Jutex Ltd.
