Anatomy Revision

The Anatomy Series is our main education focus. It consists of a series of lectures and small group teaching all 6 medical year groups. Lectures are delivered by leading surgeons whom themselves are keen to promote anatomy learning and teaching. The course also includes a set of cadaveric dissection sessions and learning from models. 

The major anatomy topics we cover in our series include thorax, abdomen and pelvis anatomy; and head, neck, spine, upper and lower limb anatomy.

Later in the academic year we host the Pre-exam sessions, hosted on weekends, before the end of year exams. This is to review the major systems covered in each year group according to their learning objectives. There will also be opportunities to train students’ examination techniques using sample questions. These courses are extremely popular.

The anatomy revision course offers exclusive prosections and dissections for fifth and final year students. Consolidation of basic anatomy knowledge is proved useful inqualifying examinations and future surgical careers.

Last year

In the past, we have invited Mr. Barry Paraskeva, who was the first surgeon in the UK to remove an appendix and gall bladder through the navel, using laparoscopic "key-hole" surgery.  This technique further minimises minimally surgery, by using one hole through the belly button to do the entire operation! The aim of lectures is to inspire students and discover the importance of a strong anatomical knowledge before embarking on such surgical innovations.

Later in the year, the world renowned Mr Bob Whitaker from Cambridge University came to give the pre-exam lectures in the third term. Over 100 hundred students attended, some of whom came as far as a Glasgow!
