Trauma Conference
Introduction
Trauma ’11 is an international conference on trauma medicine held at Imperial College London and been running for the past six years. It will take place between 19th - 20th November 2011 in the Sir Alexander Fleming Building, situated within the university’s South Kensington Campus. The two-day conference has a programme that includes lectures, practical workshops and also presentations from international students.
Aims
The conference aims to introduce medical students to the key components of Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS). This is a course that was developed by the American College of Surgeons almost three decades ago and has been adopted worldwide. It provides training for the immediate management of the injured patient. Trauma ’11 has a carefully constructed programme that is delivered by high profile consultant surgeons and surgical trainees from countries such the UK, South Africa and America.
Demand
The Trauma Conference is well-known and very popular amongst medical students from the UK as well as overseas. This is a sold out event every year with many people left on the waiting list.
Previously
Last year, Trauma ’10 was attended by over 280 delegates from universities across the country such as Oxford, Cambridge, Edinburgh as well as all of the London medical schools. We also hosted some international medical students from Europe and South East Asia.Our speakers included some the highest profile consultants in the fields of Accident and Emergency and Trauma Surgery, such as Mr Mohammad Jawad, Prof. Boffard and Mr Barry Paraskeva.
