Skills Events

Throughout the year we run a variety of skills based courses for students in all years.

See one - Do one – Teach one

We run a series of tutorials where by students learn how to knot tie, suture and more! They can be assessed and are then able to help other students to develop such skills in our progressive teaching programme.

Foundation Skills for Surgery

This one day event is hugely popular and introduces all levels of students to the basic skills required for surgery. Taught by top London surgeons, this course is one of our most popular events of the year. For 2011, we are hosting our surgical skills course with ASiT and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Glasgow.

The National Orthopedic Skills Workshop

For students from all over the UK, this event provides essential skills training for the budding orthopedic surgeons and trauma surgeons. The course covers plastering, fixation and includes essential radiology teaching.

Minimally Invasive Surgical Skills Day

Increasingly surgery is becoming minimally invasive, using keyhole techniques such as laparoscopic and single incision laparoscopic surgery. This skills day is to be hosted at St Mary’s Hospital in a rare opportunity to use the world class simulation centre equipment and to be introduced to the basic skills for keyhole surgery.
