Introduction
PotMed 2008 is a workshop designed to inspire
and advise potential medical students from all backgrounds about life
as a medic and the rigorous process of applying to medical
school. This will be the third year that PotMed will be expecting
over 120 eager students from different schools, locals and nationwide,
who will be eager to gain an insight into a career as a medic and tackle
the daunting world of medical school applications. Many doctors and
Imperial's own medical students as well as medical students from across
the London medical schools participate and make it a hugely enjoyable
day.
Aims
• gain a brief understanding of the life of a medical professional
through talks given by experienced medical professionals
• receive
tips on the personal statement
• hear advice from Imperial's medical students
• listen to interview experiences from medical students from
across London
• gain tips on communication skills
- through talks and also by one to one interviews with feedback
• give each potential medical student
a realistic mock interview with a panel of doctors
Mock Interview
Finally you will be able to test your interview
skills by undertaking a mock interview with a panel consisting of
doctors and medical students. You will receive immediate feedback
on your performance as well as on areas of improvement.
Personal Statement
You will also be able to receive tips and
advice on your personal statement.
