Rules

Fisher Hall is a community and as such there are a series of rules that are necessary to protect the safety, security and well being of all residents of the hall. Please respect them!

Security

  • Do not let strangers follow you into the hall.
  • External doors must not be propped open.
  • Always lock your room door and close windows, even if you are leaving for a short while.
  • Do not lend anyone your hall keys or swipe-card.

Fire Safety

  • Residents must evacuate the building IMMEDIATELY when the fire alarm sounds.
  • Fire fighting equipment and fire detectors must not be tampered with.
  • Fire doors, including kitchen doors, must not be propped open.
  • You should never use the heater in your room to dry clothes.
  • Candles, incense, and any form of open flame are not permitted.

Noise

  • No noise should be audible outside your room between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m.
  • Do not congregate outside the hall after 11 p.m. This is against college regulations.

Smoking & Drugs

  • Smoking is strictly prohibited anywhere in the hall, and outside within 5 metres of entrances.
  • The use of any illegal substance will result in automatic referral to a Residences Tribunal and may result in your expulsion from College.

Kitchens

  • Use of kitchens after 11.00 p.m. is prohibited (access for water is permitted).
  • Keep cookers and work surfaces clean; clear up after yourself.
  • Kitchen doors are fire doors. They must not be propped open.

Rooms

  • Parties in rooms are not permitted.
  • Posters must only be fixed to the pin-board provided in your rooms.
  • All furniture must remain in rooms.
  • It is forbidden to throw or drop anything out of any window.
  • Do not tamper with window safety restrictors, access to all balconies is prohibited

Garden and Roof

  • Fisher’s rear garden cannot be used by residents or visitors.
  • All roof and loft areas are strictly out of bounds.

Visitors

  • Visitors are your responsibility and you will be held accountable for their actions.
  • The Wardening team may require that guests leave the hall at any time.
  • Overnight guests are not permitted in double rooms.

Alcohol – additional information to the above rules

Students are expected to monitor their own behavior with respect to these rules, the College’s Student Alcohol and Substance Misuse Policy, and disturbances to others. Being intoxicated is not acceptable as an excuse for any behavior in breach of hall rules, or any actions that violate basic hall living standards.

Remember:

  • Excessive drinking leading to noise and other problems within the hall is not acceptable behaviour and will not be tolerated;
  • Alcohol should not be consumed in significant quantities in any common areas, and at any time;
  • Games of chance, drinking games, contests, and other activities that induce, encourage, or result in the rapid consumption of alcohol resulting in persons becoming intoxicated are prohibited;
  • Significant amounts of alcohol found in anyone’s possession may be confiscated;

Under 18′s

  • Alcohol may not be possessed, stored, or consumed by any person under the age of 18;
  • No giving or selling alcoholic beverages to anyone under the age of 18.

Sub-wardens have the authority to ask residents to quieten down or desist from any behaviour which they deem undesirable, to ask non-residents to leave the hall, to stop any activity and to discipline residents.

All residents are bound by the Imperial College Residence Regulations
