About the team
The Imperial College Water Polo teams compete in both the BUCS tournament and against other London colleges in the University of London league. All teams are coached by Adam Walzer, who has coached water polo at many levels including the GB Junior, Southern Counties and Macarbi teams.
BUCS Tournament
Imperial enter both men's and women's teams in the national BUCS tournament every year, competing against universities from across the country. The teams are a combination of both IC and Medic members, one of the few Imperial teams where the two unite. To allow the teams to train together, the Sunday session is normally split in half, with men training from 5 - 6.30pm and women 6.30 - 8pm, this training has a focus on development for the BUCS competition. Both teams have done well in reaching BUCS finals in recent years, our Girl's team winning second place this year.
ULU League
The league involves 10 matches, playing 5 opponents from other colleges with the University of London both at home and away . The ULU tournament is a mixed one, with two female players in the water at any one time. The team welcomes students of all standards from beginners to experienced players. This year we won the league and hope to continue this success in future seasons.
Joining the team
To join the Water Polo team you must be currently studying or working at Imperial College or be a lifetime member of the student union. The team is mixed, welcoming both male and female members. Members are welcome to join at any time during the Autumn or Spring terms. A two session trial period is offered for new members who wish to see what the club is like and decide whether they wish to join. After this trial period members are required to pay a single fee to cover the whole year's training (£70), this fee also covers training sessions with the swimming team.
