THE NATIONAL COACHING FOUNDATION

The National Coaching Foundation (NCF) is the focus for everything to do with sports coaching. Established by the Sports Council in 1983, the NCF is now an independent company with charitable status.

The overall aim of the National Coaching Foundation is to work with all sports to develop more, and better, active coaches; since quality coaching is essential at all levels of sport - from learning the foundation skills, to performing at the highest levels of excellence.

Working closing with the national governing bodies of sport, local authorities, higher and further education, and supported by the Sports Councils in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, the NCF provides a comprehensive range of services to coaches in all sports.

This work is lead at a regional level by the UK wide network of Coaching Development Officer (CDOs), based at 15 Regional Offices. The NCF has a number of specific work areas that provide the framework and context for coaching development. These are:

  1. Coach Development Programme: Personal development programme for coaches.
  2. Regional Network: UK-wide network of Regional Offices.
  3. Champion Coaching: Youth sport coaching programme.
  4. Governing Body Support: Support the work of the national governing bodies of sport.
