Air-Guns

The discipline of air pistol shooting is fairly new to the club. It was introduced shortly after the government banned the ownership of live fire handguns in 1996 and 1997.

Air-pistol is shot standing over two distances - 10m and 20yds. The pistols can be of two calibres - .22 and .177. The club's pistols are Steyr LP1; we have four of these, with an extra left-handed pistol grip.

The course of fire for each distance is different. At 10m you fire 40 shots - 4 shots on 10 AIR3/89 10m target cards. At 20yds you also fire 40 shots but with 10 shots on 4 PL15 cards. The reason for only shooting 4 shots per card at 10m is that the bull is so small, so any more than 4 shots could make scoring difficult. Targets are inwardly scored.

Air-pistols fire lead pellets using compressed air. The club pistols have a compressed air cylinder which allows over 100 shots to be taken before recharging it. Other pistols do not have a precharged cylinder, and require you to charge the pistol between each shot.
