IMPERIAL COLLEGE KENDO CLUB
Welcome
Imperial College Kendo Club is a University Kendo Club based in South Kensington, London. Founded in 1998, the club offers training to all Imperial students, staff and graduates, but also welcome all BKA members. Thriving off a large and enthusiastic membership base, Imperial Kendo Club is renown in the UK kendo community for its passionate and energetic style of kendo as well as its high standard of coaching. The Club has won numerous UK University Championships in both team and individual events as well as distinguishing itself in other major UK based tournaments.
The Club's head coach, Emiko Yoshikawa Sensei, 6th Dan, is one of the top kendo instructors in the country. Emiko sensei is also an instructor at the internationally-reputed Mumeishi Kendo club and has represented Great Britain at the highest level of international kendo at World Championships. Emiko Sensei has been coaching the club since its foundation in 1998. Her high quality of coaching, friendly character and open attitude towards beginners are the centre piece and binding element of the club. Emiko Sensei regularly competes in international tournaments and teaches with great dedication and to the highest standards. She devotes much of her time and energy to the club, running at least 2 sessions a week throughout the year. Because of her connections, the club regularly receive visits from outstanding international-level players as well as high ranked sensei-visitors from Japan.
Kendo practice
We practice in the Union Gym, Beit Quad 3F.
Our practice sessions are on
Mondays, 9:00pm - 11:00pm
Wednesdays, 8:30pm - 10:30pm
Thursdays, 9:00pm - 11:00pm
Wednesday is for people in armour only
Monday and Thursday for everyone including beginners.
(One hour beginners practice followed
by senior practice and demonstrations).
