Have you ever wondered what an Imperial novice training session looks like in fast-forward? Take a look at some time-lapse videos taken at the session on Tuesday 28th October 2008. Frames were taken every 2 seconds in the first two vids of our novices (and a few seniors) shooting away and being coached.

And from the front (watch out for subliminal messages):

This is what the last end on Tuesday looked like from the side at one second per frame:

Yes we have gone on the “wonderful weekend afternoon journey” to Guildford and back – and have a great time at the pub. But anyway 9 senior members took part in the Stag Hill Indoor Tournament today and had some promising scores.

First of all congratulations to Travis, one of our hanger-ons, on winning the Gents Compounds event of the day, with 33 golds and 573 points. Also congratulation to the Imperial team who came 3rd in the University team event after Oxford and Kent. The team was made up of our top three archers on the day – Jordan, Robin and Alex. Well done guys!

Other members who qualified for badges are as follows:
    - Jordan, with 543 points, qualified for Full Red
    - Robin, with 498 points, received a Full White from his nomination for Half Red
    - Alex, with 477 points, qualified for Full White
    - Edmund, with 453 points, qualified for Half Red
    - Rhys, with 437 points, received a Half Red badge from his nomination for Half Blue

    Special mention also goes to:
-Ian C, with 343 points, missed his nomination for Half Blue
-Rachel, with 255 points, missed her nomination for Half Blue

Once again congratulations to all who got the badges, and to Travis who won the day. The next badge qualifying match will be the SEAL match on the 16th November, and we are looking forward to better scores and more badges to be given out.

Update 31/10/2008 by Robin: Thanks to a calculation error, we’ve been awarded the bronze medal in the university team scoring! Yay! Next time, we’ll do still better. Also, I’ve added some pictures of the day.

The competition part of ICAC will start this weekend, when the senior team will embark on a hopefully wonderful weekend afternoon journey (lol) from the long forgotten Waterloo station (LOL!!) to Guildford to compete in the Stag Hill Indoor tournament 2008.

The archery club committee will be joined by 2 other senior members of the club at the tournament, which will be a FITA18 round (if any novice is reading this, FITA18 round is shot at 18 meter on a 40 cm target face, with 60 arrows shot in the round), competing with a number of universities and local archery clubs throughout UK.

More importantly, Stag Hill will see the badge system in action for the first time this year – after a 2 week nomination period the team has nominated badges to make a start on achieving their individual targets for the year! Below is the list of nominations made from the team (in order of positions):

    Jordan (Captain) – Full Red
    Chris (Secretary) – Full Red
    Alex (Treasurer) – Full White
Ian C (Equipment Officer) – Half Blue
Edmund (Records Officer) – Half Red
    Robin (Webmaster) – Half Red
Rhys (Senior Member) – Half Blue
Rachel (Senior Member) – Half Blue

From the Records Officer, all the best to the team at Stag Hil and hope members of the team will successfully qualify for their badges! For novices interested to compete, stay tuned, the first novice competition won’t be far away! Feel free to ask any member of the committee or the senior archers at sessions or by email if you are interested to know more about competition opportunities.

The Have-A-Go sessions on Wednesday and Thursday were great! The London weather was on it’s best behaviour on Wednesday’s shoot, and afterwards even a Helicopter showed up to say hi. Chris and I (Robin) have taken some pictures for your viewing pleasure. Check them out below!

Also, there are some slow motion videos of Jordans demonstration shots in the next news article!

Very cunning gadgets enabled us to bring you slow motion videos of Jordan demonstrating how to shoot as properly as possible without having a sight-mark. Marvel with us at this heretofore unseen footage!

Bonus material: a slow motion helicopter landing very slowly behind a slow motion Chris and a slow motion Edmund smiling very slowly.
